1. “Fate/stay night” 06 version
This work is the first installment in the “Fate” series, produced in 2006. According to the classification of the Fate storyline by fans, this work mainly follows the Saber storyline, mainly telling the story of the bond between the male protagonist, Shirou Emiya, and Saber in the Holy Grail War, and their love story. After the Holy Grail War ends, Shirou and Saber, the King of Knights, disappeared after saying “I love you” under the setting sun, which also became a fond memory for many fans.
2. “Fate/zero”
The work “Fate/zero” was released in 2011, mainly narrating the Fourth Holy Grail War that took place ten years before the Fifth Holy Grail War. The main character of the story is not Shirou Emiya, but his father, Kiritsugu Emiya, along with Saber, the King of Knights. It is because of this Holy Grail War that Kiritsugu Emiya and Shirou Emiya forged a father-son relationship, laying the groundwork for Shirou Emiya’s encounter with Saber in the Fifth Holy Grail War.
In addition to Kiritsugu Emiya, the actions of Tokiomi Tohsaka in this anime also sparked controversy, and his actions also influence the fate of the characters in the subsequent Holy Grail War. In the world of the second dimension, there is a saying about fate: “It’s all Tokiomi’s fault.”
3. “Fate/stay night” 14 version
Unlike the 06 version, this 2014 version is developed from the perspective of Rin Tohsaka, with Shirou Emiya as the male protagonist. It also reveals the relationship between Shirou Emiya and the Saber. Although the timeline is the same, there are many remakes in terms of plot and special effects. In summary, the 06 version and the 14 version tell the same Holy Grail War, but the perspective of the story and the plot have changed slightly. However, overall, this anime is still a classic.
4. “Fate/Apocrypha”
This anime was produced in 2017, and its connection with the above-mentioned anime is not very significant. If we have to make some connection, it would be the appearance of Mordred, the son of Saber, in this anime. However, she is not the main character. The main characters of the story are an artificial human and the saint Joan of Arc. The male protagonist, in order to struggle against his fate, unexpectedly obtains the heart of the Servant, Sieg. Thus, he participates in the Holy Grail War under the name of Saber. This is the only “Fate” anime series to participate in the Holy Grail War in a team battle format.
5. “Fate/Extra Last Encore”
Produced in 2018, the Holy Grail War on the moon, the Moon Holy Grail War caused by magicians and Servants in the virtual world. The male protagonist summons the Servant Nero in the face of the crisis of death. This anime is unique in terms of art style and plot, not following the usual approach. Thus, it has received polarized evaluations since its release.
6. “Fate Grand Order” (FGO)
Released in 2016, it has only one episode. In order to ensure the future of humanity, an experimental organization sends a spiritual substance to the past world, attempting to search for temporal singularities by intervening in events. Mashu, the Shielder, appears in this anime. Since there is only one episode, even the editor is unsure whether she can be considered a main character. However, according to the latest news, the sequel of FGO will be released in October this year, so stay tuned!
7. “Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel” movie
This year’s released movie, focusing on the Sakura storyline, mainly tells the emotional story between the male protagonist, Shirou Emiya, and Sakura Matou. It can be said that this is the darkest storyline in all the “Fate” series. The blooming cherry blossoms in the mud, whether they can be saved again, remains to be seen, and we can only look forward to the as-yet-unreleased third part of Heaven’s Feel.
8. “Fate/Kaleid Liner”
Also known as “Magical Girl Illya,” it is a derivative work of the “Fate” series, with Illyasviel von Einzbern as the main character. The editor has not seen this version in detail, so I cannot provide much further information. However, based on the recommendations of fans, it should be a very interesting anime, and the editor will also go and watch it.
9. “Fate/Grand Order – Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia”
《幻想嘉年华》是TYPE-MOON的10周年纪念动画，属于fate的衍生同人作品，可以说是一部喜剧。尽管它没有fate系列在战斗时的热血激情，但它能给大家带来快乐，这一点仍然很不错。
10.《君主·埃尔梅罗二世事件簿》
